Sony Xperia Tablet Z Designed To Compete Directly With Apple's iPad

Set to appear during Q2 in Canada, the Sony Xperia Tablet Z will be offered at a fairly reasonable price of approximately $499 CAD for the Wi-Fi only version.

Sony's Xperia Tablet Z has specs list and price that will bring the 10.1-inch tablet in line with the Apple iPad 4 and Samsung Galaxy Note tablets.

Specifications

Running Android 4.1.1 Jelly Bean, the Tablet Z has a 10.1-inch 1920×1200 pixel screen, a 1.5Ghz quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 Pro SoC, 2GB RAM, 16-32GB internal storage, a 8MP back Exmor R camera sensor, a 2MP front Exmor R sensor, and a number of familiar of Sony-branded apps. It’s 6.9mm thin and weighs a slight 495 grams.

The Sony Xperia Tablet Z will be the lightest 10.1-inch tablet offered by any manufacturer in the world, weighing only 495 grams. Sony Xperia Tablet Z measures just 6.9mm thick, slimmer than the 7.2mm frame of the iPad Mini, making it the thinnest tablet ever.

The Xperia Tablet Z ships with Google OS, Android 4.2 Jelly Bean, and an integrated microSD slot (expandable to 64GB).

On the back, the Sony Xperia Tablet Z has an 8-megapixel camera capable of shooting 1080p video, and a 2.2-megapixel front-facing camera, both with Sony’s low light technology, Exmor R and Superior Auto.

The Sony Xperia Tablet Z has a 6,000mAh battery, NFC connectivity, called OneTouch by Sony, and S-Force Front Surround 3D audio.

It's Waterproof

Like the Sony Xperia Z smartphone, the tablet version will be certifiably waterproof, immersible in up to three feet of water for up to half an hour.

When you can buy one

Set to appear during Q2 in Canada, the Sony Xperia Tablet Z will be offered at approximately $499 CAD for the Wi-Fi only version, whilst the 4G/LET option will likely cost $599 CAD. This will match the Wi-Fi and Wi-Fi and cellular options offered by Apple for the iPad 4.
